CD (Cluster of Differentiation)

CD: cluster designation or cluster of differentiation
It's a classification system for monoclonal antibodies generated by laboratories worldwide against cell surface molecules on leukocytes initially, now also antigens from other cell types
Data collated and analyzed by cluster analysis based on pattern of binding to leukocytes or other cell types.
They are used in immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry

The new AbCys anti-CD catalogue include more than 2500 references with a large choice of:
  • targets (Human, mouse, rat, pig, rabbit, Sheep, Dog, Cat..)
  • marking (FITC, Biotin, HRPO, RPE, Alexa 647, Alexa 488..)
  • applications (IHC(c,p), CF, WB, ELISA, IF, IP…)

Human squamous cell carcinoma, floor of the mouth: immunohistochemical staining for CD44 variant 3. Note intense membrane staining of tumor cells. Paraffin section.

*Anti-CD1a, On chromosome 1q22-23 (not MHC linked)
CD1a is a T cell surface antigen important in dendritic cell presentation of glycolipids and lipopeptide antigens
May activate intrathyroidal T cells in Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Grave's disease (J Immunol 2005;174:3773)
They are uses in diagnosis of Langerhans cell histiocytosis and exclusion of other entities that are CD1a negative

*Anti-Mouse CD26 (Clone H207-1082), Mouse CD26, also known as thymocyte-activating molecule (THAM), is a type II integral membrane dipeptidyl-peptidase expressed on the cell surface as a 220 kDa heterodimer.
CD26 is differentially expressed on developing thymocytes and is upregulated on activated T cells. It has also been reported on cells from a variety of non-hematopoietic tissues including liver, intestine and kidney. CD26 is reported to be involved in cell adhesion, signal transduction in T lymphocytes and HIV infection.
In addition, CD26 may also have a role in the pathophysiology of autoimmune diseases as well as immune-mediated disorders for which CD26 could be a potential target for novel treatment modalities.
